Hand in Popcorn

If you love popcorn, raise your hand!  It’s Linley here and I am a huge popcorn lover. However, I’ve never met anyone that loves popcorn more than Lee Hersh. Most mornings when I get to work, there is a half pot of popcorn sitting on the stove from the night before! It really is one of the best snacks ever. We have put together some tasty popcorn snack mixes in THIS post, but today we are talking about the deliciousness of freshly popped stove top popcorn.

I have to say that stove top popcorn can be a little bit intimidating if you’ve never made it before. Heck, I’ve made it my whole life and I still get nervous that the popcorn is going to overflow while I’m making it. No one needs an oil burn from making a delicious snack on the stove. Don’t be afraid, people of Fit Foodie Finds. We have put together a kitchen hack on how to pop popcorn on the stove. GET EXCITED.

Here’s What You’ll Need

All you’ve got to do is heat a saucepan, add oil, and when oil is hot add your popcorn and cover. When the kernels start to pop is when you have to really keep an eye on your saucepan. You really want to avoid keeping your popcorn in the saucepan after all the kernels are popped so you don’t end up with burnt popcorn! Remove from heat, add a bit of sea salt, and have delicious stove top popcorn!

My favorite way to eat popcorn is with a little olive oil and salt. However, go to town and try sprinkling your popcorn with your favorite spice mix! Make this recipe your own and remember to have fun!

  • Yield: 2

  • 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil*

  1. Place 1/2 tablespoon of oil on the bottom of a medium-size pan. Turn heat to medium/high and place two unpopped popcorn kernels in the oil. Let sit.
  2. Once the two popcorn kernels have popped, you can add the rest of the unpopped popcorn. Cover and shake kernels so that they are fully coated in oil.
  3. Continue to periodically shake kernels (with the top on) about every 20 seconds. Soon enough, they will begin to pop!
  4. Continue shaking as the popcorn pops. Once there are about 2 or 3 seconds in between pops, you know the popcorn is done popping and it’s time to flavor!
